Domain Transfer Guides

The following tutorials will help you to transfer your domain registration to DynDNS.com from other registrars.

Overview

When preparing a domain for transfer, you will need to complete the following tasks at the current registrar:

  • Unlock the domain name: To prevent theft from domain scams, domain names are normally locked. The domain must be manually unlocked by the owner to allow transfer.
  • Retrieve the authcode: Most domain registrations have an EPP authorization code (authcode) that must be provided by the owner during a transfer to confirm it. You will need to get this authcode from the current registrar before you can transfer it to another provider.
  • Uncloak WHOIS: Many registrars (including DynDNS.com) offer private registration services, which cloaks a domain's publicly-available WHOIS information to protect the customer's identity and privacy. A domain's WHOIS must be revealed before a transfer can occur, as confirmation emails are sent to the Administrative address in WHOIS.

Once the domain is unlocked, its WHOIS information is uncloaked, and the authcode is retrieved, you may begin transferring the domain. Please see our pre-transfer checklist for more help with domain transfers.
