Warning: This page has been removed so that this package can be tested further for router stability. It is not recommended that you install this package.
Hardware-based firmware devices do not always have support for DynDNS. OpenWrt is a Linux distribution for embedded devices which supports the DynDNS-inadyn update client. This article walks you through the process of setting up that update client on your hardware device.
Warning: OpenWrt flashes the firmware of your device which may void your warranty and/or render your device a brick ("useless"). Do not continue unless you are comfortable about doing this.
For this step, please see Openwrt.org for information and directions for installing OpenWrt. At the time of writing, we would recommend the White Russian version. If you get into trouble, you might be able to reload your router through a TFTP load.
Warning: Once you have installed the inadyn_DynDNS package, DO NOT uninstall the package. It will break your firmware and the only way to recover will be to TFTP another firmware onto your device. If you wish to remove the DynDNS modifications to OpenWRT you must reinstall the OpenWRT firmware. Installing DynDNS Inadyn 1.96.2 will also remove all occurences of EZ IP Update, so in order to recover this client you would also need to reinstall the OpenWRT firmware.
Once you have OpenWrt installed, you can install the inadyn_DynDNS package. To do install the package, navigate to the Systems Tab, you will then select the Packages Sub-Tab. You will use the option to "Install Package From URL". The address that you want to use is: http://cdn.dyndns.com/inadyn_DynDNS.
This will install DynDNS-inadyn, installation will take a few minutes but after the installation completes you will be redirected to the DynDNS Inadyn 1.96.2 Main Menu.
Note: If it appears that the installation is running twice, do not be alarmed, you will be redirected the second time the script is completed
You will next need to navigate to the inadyn.conf file, it is there where you will input your account details. The Inadyn.conf file can be found in the folder labeled /etc. This is in the Systems Tab in the File Editor Sub-Tab.
Select the Pencil Icon next to the file to edit the config document, here you will enter your DynDNS account information.
To enter multiple hosts you would use the format:
alias host1.dyndns.org
alias host2.dyndns.org
If you get stuck in building your configuration file, please visit the client configuration tool and choose inadyn as the client. You should be able to copy and paste the configuration file after you include your password.
When you have completed the changes you will select save changes. In order for these changes to be applied, you must select Apply Changes which is located at the bottom right of your screen.
Afterwards, reboot your router. After you have successfully rebooted within two minutes, Inadyn should have sent an update. You can view this via your syslogs in OpenWrt as show below.
