MailHop Outbound How-To

MailHop Outbound is very simple to configure in our system. All you need to do is visit the Add MailHop Outbound page and select the number of relays per day you would like to purchase. One "relay" is counted for each recipient of a message you send. That is, one message, sent to 50 recipients, counts as 50 "relays." 50 different messages, each sent to only one recipient, also counts as 50 "relays." Relay counters are reset each night at 12:00 am (midnight) in the US Eastern time zone (GMT-0500 during winter months, GMT-0400 when the US is observing Daylight Savings Time).

Once you've selected the number of relays you'd like to purchase (you can always add more later), click on the Next button to add the service to your cart. Once added to your cart, you only need to checkout before the service becomes active.

Now you just have to configure your email program to use our server for outgoing email. We have compiled detailed instructions for several of the more popular/common email programs - see the MailHop Outbound page in the knowledge base to look through them. The table below describes all the settings you should need if your email program is not described in detail - please consult your mail program's documentation for full details of how to properly configure it, if we have not listed your program, it is because we do not have access to it, and cannot provide detailed instructions.

Setting Value
Outgoing (SMTP) Server outbound.mailhop.org
SMTP Port (advanced setting) 25, 2525, or 10025 - please use the default port of 25 unless your ISP is blocking that port, in which case you may choose one of the other ports.
SMTPS Support For clients that require SMTPS in order to send over an SSL/TLS connection, you can use port 465 or 10465.
Username Your DynDNS username
Password Your DynDNS password
Authentication Method/Type "Login", "Password", and "Auth" are commonly used names - this can vary widely from program to program.
Use SSL/Encryption Yes - our server supports SSL. If your client does not support it, you do not have to use it, but we strongly recommend that you do, to protect the security of your login information.

An encrypted identification string will be included in the headers of all outgoing messages sent through this service. Spamming using this service absolutely will not be tolerated, and any account found to be spamming will be immediately terminated, and applicable cleanup fees charged as per our Acceptable Use Policy.
