MANCHESTER, NH - Dynamic Network Services Inc. (Dyn Inc.), a provider of superior domain name systems ("DNS") services, announced today that it will begin offering SSL Certificates.
SSL, short for Secure Sockets Layer, is a protocol for transmitting private documents via the Internet. SSL uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data - a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message. SSL is a key component of e-commerce, as it allows consumers to transmit confidential information, such as credit card numbers and other private data. To establish a secure SSL connection, however, a company's application must first have an encryption key assigned to it by a Certification Authority in the form of a Certificate. Once the application has a unique key of its own, the company can establish a secure connection using the SSL protocol.
"Offering SSL Certificates for websites was a natural extension of our existing business," commented Jeremy Hitchcock, CEO/CFO of Dyn Inc. "Our superior DNS services insure that consumers are able to reach our clients' site each and every time they attempt. Now, by expanding our service offerings to include SSL Certificates, we can offer our clients and their consumers with a secure portal over which to conduct business."
