PORTLAND, OREGON While at the O'Reilly Open Source Convention 2003, DynDNS.org and Onyx Neon raised $4,837 at an auction to benefit The Perl Foundation Thursday night. This money will benefit the general Perl development fund. All of the items at auction were generously donated by O'Reilly, Disney, and members of the Open Source and Perl communities.
The auction was a great success, said Jeremy Hitchcock. We had a great time with this last year and this year. Were hoping to see this as an annual event.
At the climax of of the event, a one-year choice of the primary color for search.cpan.org was placed up for auction. London.pm launched a collaborative bid for their choice of color (orange). Others fought this effort and eventually won with a bid of $1,025, deciding to keep the original color, web-safe teal. In the end, London.pm will be given the choice of color for one month for their spirited attempt.
A special thanks goes out to Robert Spier from Disney for officiating the auction, Uri Guttman of Stem Systems, and Liz Cash from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
