In May, we asked if this was the year for IPv6. Since then, we added IPv6 transit and have been gradually learning more about v6 networking and DNS. Last month, we announced the availability of DynDNS Spring Server VPS which is the first VPS to offer IPv6 hosting. Its pretty neat for us!
Despite everyone talking about adopting IPv6, most of the talk is about the core network but not content. As someone at a NANOG recently said, IPv6 is great but I want to get to the Internet. That quote really speaks to the core of the issue. IPv6 access isn't worth much without anywhere to go. That was a major reason why we launched our VPS service with IPv6 so that our users could have access to dual-stack networks to easily publish content. We hope that more user content will help speed IPv6 adoption.
At the office, we recently added dual-stack so that we can see the Bouncing Google, the Dancing kame, and our Spring Server VPS cloud all over IPv6. Networking experimenting. For those who do not have IPv6 networks that they can connect to, you can use Hurricane Electrics IPv6 Tunnel Broker for free.
In the coming months, more of our services will phase into dual-stack IPv6 as we learn how best to deploy v6. Stay tuned.
