We are happy to announce that inadyn 1.96.2 and ddclient 3.7.3 work great with our DNS services.
While these clients are not the most popular downloads for users setting up dynamic DNS (DDNS), they are important since they are also embedded into devices that you may already use. Home-based routers are more frequently Linux based and manufacturers look for preexisting packages that just work. These are also in projects like dd-wrt and Openwrt.
Perl-based ddclient requires almost no installation efforts. What's also excellent to report is that ddclient supports SSL so that updates can be sent over HTTPS.
Inadyn is a small C program, it is light and works on many systems. Inadyn can be run as a Windows system service with a little work which is useful for Windows systems that need update capability but want a lightweight client or want to more readily auto-provision devices for the field.
Another popular update client is ez-ipupdate which does work for the most part. It can get into a race condition if the filesystem that its cache file is on is mounted read only. This is not an issue for desktop or server environments but it is for embedded systems which is where we see the unix clients loaded most frequently. ez-ipupdate is no longer maintained (at least to the best of our knowledge) and there have been no updates since 2002.
This is just another option in how you can use Free DDNS or DNS Hosting with us.
